More About Metabolic Health India

Shashikant Iyengar is a Metabolic Health Coach, educator, researcher, and founder of Metabolic Health India®. With over 35 years of experience in the healthcare industry, including leadership roles at Abbott and Pfizer, he transitioned to full-time health coaching in 2022 to help individuals address the root causes of chronic disease through evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle interventions.

Having achieved remission from Type 2 diabetes himself in 2015 and maintained normal glycaemic markers without diabetes medication for over a decade, Shashikant brings both professional expertise and lived experience to his work. He has helped clients from India and around the world improve their metabolic health in areas such as Type 2 diabetes, obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, fatty liver disease, and selected neurological and mental health conditions.

Shashikant holds multiple international certifications in low-carbohydrate nutrition, ketogenic therapies, and metabolic health. He serves as an international teaching faculty member and ambassador with Nutrition Network (South Africa), contributing to the training of health coaches and healthcare professionals globally.

In Feb 2026, his decade-long Type 2 diabetes remission journey was published in the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Nutrition, documenting the long-term effectiveness and safety of a culturally adapted low-carbohydrate approach in an Indian setting.

He is also the founder and organiser of the Metabolic Health Conference (MHC) India, a virtual conference series that has brought leading international experts in metabolic health to Indian audiences, helping make evidence-based education freely accessible to thousands of healthcare professionals and members of the public.

What is Metabolic Health?

Metabolic health refers to the state of health where an individual has healthy levels of various markers related to metabolism, including blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides. A person with good metabolic health is less likely to develop chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Some of the key indicators of metabolic health include a low waist circumference, healthy blood sugar levels, healthy blood pressure, low levels of triglycerides, and high levels of HDL cholesterol. Achieving and maintaining metabolic health typically involves a combination of regular exercise, healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking, and managing stress levels.

KOLKATA

When I first came to the Health Centric, I was suffering from uncontrolled blood pressure. I was on four different medications, yet my BP was still high at 160/95. With the help of their non-veg ketogenic diet, I was able to get off all four drugs and my BP returned to normal. I was on Telmisartan 80mg, Chlorthalidone 6.5, Amlodipine 5mg and Bisoprolol 5mg. Even my creatinine was raised at 1mg/dl, but after following the diet, it returned to normal. I'm so thankful to the Health Centric for helping me get my health back on track.
